The growth in visitation and population in Calhoun County is just one example of these coastal trends. Public access for recreational, public safety and other uses has been an increasing problem for the County in the last 20 years. As a response to these problems, the County developed a Comprehensive Recreation, Conservation ahnd Access Master Plan report, which was conducted in 2006, for the West Side of the Calhoun County Navigation District. The study served as a planning document to assist the navigation district in improving condition for its citizens but also covered some of the shoreline infrastructer needed for the County to respond to the visitation, population and economic growth. The report developed an inventory of recreational facilities and locations associated with various shoreline areas including boat ramps, piers, pavilions, beach areas, camping, fishing, bicycling, hunting, wildlife viewing and bird watching. Calhoun County has hired Dr. Juan Moya with Atkins North America, Inc. to prepare a plan for Calhoun County boat ramps, parks, and any other improvements. The progress of any projects are to be updated periodically and be approved by Commissioners Court. Commissioners Galvan, Lyssy, Fritsch, Finster and Judge Pfeifer all voted in favor. PUBLIC DISCUSSION OF COUNTY MATTERS: There were no comments from the public. Court was adjourned.
